The immediate past Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Cross River State, Alphonsus Eba, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development was confirmed on Thursday in Calabar by PDP presidential aspirant, Sandy Onor, who disclosed that Eba would serve as the party’s deputy governorship candidate in the 2027 governorship election in the state.
“It is true that Eba is now with us in the PDP. In fact, he is going to deputise our governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Cross River,” Onor said.
Reports indicate that Eba formally resigned his membership of the APC in a letter dated May 7, 2026, addressed to the Ward Secretary of Echumofana Ward in Yala Local Government Area of the state.
In the resignation letter obtained by journalists, Eba said the ideals of peace, love, unity and growth which he brought into the APC had gradually been eroded.
“I have therefore sought an alternative platform where I can continue my political evangelism of peace, love, unity and growth,” he stated.
“I write to inform you that I have withdrawn my membership of APC and I humbly request that you delist my name from the hard copy and digital register of the party before transmitting same to INEC,” Eba added.
The defection is expected to reshape political alignments in Cross River as parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
