Idris HK Picks SDP Senatorial Form to Run for Kogi East Senate

Idris Hussein Kashim Alias Idris HK has formally entered the race for the Kogi East Senate seat after obtaining the Social Democratic Party (SDP) nomination form, following a political trajectory that has taken him through the APC and PDP.

The latest move positions him to contest the 2027 election under the SDP banner after months of grassroots mobilization across the district. His team frames the shift as strategic rather than reactive.

“Politics is pure strategy devoid of emotions,” a source close to the campaign said. “It has been a battle between us and your elites, most of them are intimidated by Idris HK’s popularity. We decided to pipe low on our moves.”

Idris HK’s path to the SDP began in the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he built early name recognition. He later moved to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before settling on the SDP as his platform for the senatorial bid. Supporters say the final switch was driven by the need for a structure that aligns with his campaign’s development-focused message and allows direct engagement with voters without internal party friction.

The decision to pick the SDP form signals readiness to take the contest to the next level after a period of low-profile organization and constituency outreach.

Backers argue that Idris HK’s edge lies in his grassroots presence and emphasis on development issues over partisan rhetoric. The contrast with other contenders has become a recurring theme in the campaign’s messaging.

“The difference between Idris HK and others is that while others are talking politics, Idris HK is talking development,” one supporter said.

With the SDP nomination secured, Idris HK’s candidacy sets up a closely watched race for Kogi East Senate. The contest will test whether his strategy of quiet mobilization and focus on constituency needs can translate into electoral success against established political networks in the district.
