Kwara APC Postpones Governorship Primary

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state has postponed its governorship primary election, which was scheduled for Thursday.

According to a statement issued by the party on Thursday, the exercise will now hold on Friday, May 22.

The notice, signed by Abdulwaheed
Babatunde, the state publicity secretary, advised all aspirants and party members to take note of the new date.

“The APC governorship Ppimary earlier scheduled to hold today, Thursday, 21st May 2026, has been postponed. The new date for the Governorship Primary is now Friday, 22nd May 2026,” the statement reads.

The party expressed appreciation for the understanding and cooperation of its members.

Meanwhile, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, governor of Kwara, has officially endorsed Yahaya Seriki, a businessman, as his preferred successor.

The governor made the announcement after consultations with party leaders and structures across the state.

He described Seriki as a “young, pro-people, astute, and broad-minded” politician with strong grassroots support, leadership qualities, and experience — including serving as director general of the APC campaigns in 2019 and 2023.

AbdulRazaq had clarified that the endorsement does not bar other aspirants from contesting but urged party members to rally behind Seriki for unity, cohesion, and the party’s continued success.

Other notable APC aspirants in the Kwara governorship race include Saliu Mustapha, Abubakar Sulaiman (also known as Prof. Wale Sulaiman), Bashir Bolarinwa, Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, Mohammed Belgore, Olufemi Sanni, Mohammed Bio, Alabi Tajudeen, Yakubu Salihu, and Tajudee AbdulKadir.
