The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a sweeping call for unity and peaceful conduct among its presidential aspirants, party leaders, and members just one day before the party’s presidential primaries.
In a statement released Sunday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, framed the upcoming Monday vote as a pivotal moment for both the ADC and Nigerians seeking what he called “a credible political alternative.”
“The ADC remains proud to stand today as the only truly democratic party in Nigeria,” Abdullahi said, “because it is the only political party whose choice of presidential candidate is determined through open primaries.”
The party’s appeal comes as Nigeria’s political landscape continues to shift ahead of the next general election cycle. The ADC, while not among the nation’s largest political forces, has positioned itself as an alternative to established parties.
Abdullahi urged all participants—aspirants, supporters, delegates, and party faithful—to “conduct themselves peacefully, responsibly, and with dignity throughout the process.”
While acknowledging that “contests and disagreements are natural in every democratic process,” he stressed that “the larger mission of rescuing Nigeria and rebuilding public trust in leadership must remain paramount.”
The party concluded with an appeal for internal cohesion: “At the end of this exercise, there will be no winners or losers within the ADC family. The ultimate objective is to emerge stronger, more united, and fully prepared to offer Nigerians the competent and credible leadership they deserve.”
The ADC stated that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure a free, fair, and transparent primary process.
