Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Tuesday received a delegation from the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who came to express sympathy over the recent abduction of teachers and pupils in Yawota and Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area.
The visit was led by the SDP National Chairman, Prof. Sadiq Umar Gombe, alongside the party’s presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo. The delegation was received at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Prof. Gombe said the visit was primarily to condole with the state government and residents over the incident, while also exploring ways to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
He commended Governor Makinde’s response to the situation, noting that true leadership is demonstrated through the protection of lives and property as well as the welfare of citizens.
According to him, “We are here to sympathise with His Excellency, the Governor of Oyo State, the government, and the good people of the state over what happened in Oriire Local Government. We also want to see how we can work together to prevent such incidents from recurring, not only in Oyo State but across Nigeria.”
Also speaking, Prince Adebayo urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts toward securing lives and property, while equipping security agencies with modern tools and strengthening the nation’s security framework to curb insurgency.
Other members of the delegation included the Deputy National Chairman, Senator Ugochukwu Uba; Oyo State governorship candidate, Hon. Michael Okunlade; and Lagos State governorship candidate, Hon. Femi Olaniyi, among others.
