Dr. Obinna Simon has withdrawn from the race for the Nigeria Democratic Congress [NDC] House of Representatives ticket for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, citing party unity and an intervention from former presidential candidate Peter Obi.
In a press release issued for immediate release, Simon announced he “will not participate in the forthcoming party primaries” for the 2027 general elections.
“I, Dr. Obinna Simon PfD., wish to formally announce my withdrawal from the race for the House of Representatives ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency,” he said.
Simon said the decision followed “a heartfelt request and intervention from His Excellency, Mr Peter Obi, whom I hold in high esteem and respect.” He added that it also came “after a careful deliberation, consultation with my supporters, political associates, and critical stakeholders within our great party.”
He framed the move as a sacrifice for party cohesion ahead of the 2027 polls. “As loyal party members and believers in the collective interest of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), we understand that certain decisions and sacrifices are necessary for the unity, stability, and overall success of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.”
Simon thanked supporters across the constituency for their backing and urged them to remain aligned with the party.
“I sincerely appreciate the immense love, encouragement, and unwavering support shown to me throughout this journey by supporters across the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency and beyond. Your commitment and belief in our shared vision remain deeply valued.”
He called on his base to “remain peaceful, committed, and faithful to the ideals and leadership of the party,” and encouraged continued participation in party activities and mobilization efforts “toward ensuring victory for the NDC at all levels in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.”
“My commitment to the growth, unity, and success of our great party remains resolute, and I will continue to contribute meaningfully toward the progress of the Nigeria Democratic Congress and the development of our constituency,” Simon stated.
The release was signed by Dr. Obinna Simon PfD., listed as NDC AMAC/Bwari House of Representatives Aspirant.
