An Indian court has refused bail to a 44-year-old Nigerian man, Cristian Soporuchukwu, who is currently facing charges related to alleged drug trafficking in the country.
Reports indicate that Soporuchukwu entered India on a business visa but was later arrested after he was allegedly found involved in the sale of hard drugs.
He was said to have travelled across several Indian cities, including Goa, Delhi, and Mumbai, where he reportedly established links with suspected drug dealers.
Authorities accused him of purchasing MDMA crystals and distributing them to college students and information technology workers.
He was arrested in April 2025 by Beguru police near Begur Lake and along AECS Layout Road for allegedly dealing in MDMA.
According to *The New Indian Express*, the High Court of Karnataka rejected his bail application. The report also stated that anti-narcotics operatives recovered about one kilogram of MDMA crystals, alongside a pocket weighing scale, 10 zip-lock bags, a mobile phone, and a scooter from the suspect.
Delivering the ruling, Justice V. Srishananda held that procedural errors in the grounds of arrest were not sufficient to justify bail in serious narcotics cases under the NDPS Act. The court further observed that the accused had overstayed his visa in India.
