The Federal High Court of Nigeria has ordered that its registries in all divisions will henceforth remain open on weekends and public holidays to receive filings related to pre-election cases ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The directive was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Chief Registrar of the court, Yahaya Shafa.
According to the court, the measure became necessary due to strict constitutional and statutory deadlines governing the filing and adjudication of pre-election disputes.
In the statement, the court said: “The Federal High Court of Nigeria formally notifies all legal practitioners that Registries in all Divisions of the Federal High Court would be open between 10:00am and 2:00pm Weekends and Public Holidays for Filing of Pre-Election Matters Only.
“This has become expedient to meet up with the limited time frame for filing Pre-election matters.”
Meanwhile, political parties nationwide have stepped up activities ahead of the 2027 polls, with several already holding primaries for governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly tickets.
