Senators Victor Umeh and Tony Nwoye, alongside businessman Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, have secured the senatorial tickets of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general elections in Anambra State.
Following the party’s primary elections held across the state on Friday, Umeh emerged as the candidate for Anambra Central, Nwoye won the ticket for Anambra North, while Onunkwo was elected to represent Anambra South.
The primaries, conducted using the Option A4 voting system, commenced with the accreditation of party members before voting began later in the day. The exercise recorded a notable turnout of registered members across the state.
In addition to the senatorial contests, the party also produced candidates for the House of Representatives and the Anambra State House of Assembly, with 11 and 30 candidates respectively emerging from the exercise.
Reacting to the outcome, the Anambra State Chairman of the NDC, Ikem Uzoezie, praised party members for conducting themselves peacefully throughout the process. He described the primaries as transparent, credible and orderly, expressing confidence that the exercise would stand out as one of the most peaceful in the state’s political history.
Uzoezie also congratulated both the successful candidates and those who were unsuccessful, commending the aspirants for demonstrating sportsmanship during the exercise.
Speaking on behalf of the victorious candidates, Onunkwo said the party’s flagbearers were united by a common vision to advance the development of Anambra State.
He applauded party members for ensuring a peaceful process and expressed optimism that the calibre of candidates presented by the NDC would provide effective representation and contribute to the state’s growth.
According to him, the party is entering the 2027 elections with candidates committed to delivering people-oriented leadership and taking Anambra to greater heights.
