The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ogun State, Rotimi Babajide, has promised to run an inclusive, transparent and people-oriented administration if elected in the 2027 general elections.
Babajide, a town planning professional, said governance should be driven by accountability, broad participation and policies that promote shared prosperity across all sectors of society.
He made this known on Friday while addressing journalists shortly after securing the party’s governorship ticket.
He dismissed claims that Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, poses any political threat to his ambition, insisting that competition is a normal and healthy part of democratic practice.
Babajide described his emergence as a fulfilment of a long-standing aspiration, noting that it reflected the collective decision of party members who desire a fresh approach to leadership in Ogun State.
He expressed appreciation to party supporters, describing the moment as a significant milestone for the APM.
According to him, his administration will prioritise inclusive governance, ensuring that all residents, regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity or social background, feel represented and valued.
He said his leadership would be centred on citizen participation, openness and equal access to government.
Babajide also outlined infrastructure development, rural transformation and agricultural growth as key areas of focus, stressing that Ogun State’s industrial potential must translate into improved living standards for residents.
He maintained that state resources should be used to directly improve the welfare of the people, adding that development must be people-driven and not elite-focused.
On the political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 elections, Babajide said he was not intimidated by opponents, stressing that leadership should be measured by vision and service delivery rather than political strength or popularity.
He called for issue-based campaigns, urging all stakeholders to focus on policies that would improve the lives of Ogun residents.
Also speaking, the party’s senatorial candidate for Ogun Central, Idowu Imoleayo, appealed for voters’ support while expressing confidence in his chances despite financial limitations compared to rival candidates.
He said electoral success depends on divine support and public trust rather than financial influence.
Imoleayo also criticised the current administration, alleging underperformance in sectors such as healthcare, education, infrastructure and security, and called for improved governance in the state.
The Ogun APM chairman, Abayomi Sanyaolu, also expressed optimism that the party would perform strongly in the 2027 elections, saying victory would depend on public acceptance and divine favour rather than financial power.
He described Babajide as a grassroots politician who understands the needs of ordinary citizens, expressing confidence in his ability to connect with voters across the state.
