YPP Presents Female Presidential Candidate Ahead of 2027 General Elections

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has officially nominated its National Women Leader, Mrs Anita Zugwai-Chukwu, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The decision was reached on Saturday during the party’s third national convention held in Abuja, where she emerged unopposed after being adopted as the sole aspirant.

Party leaders described her emergence as part of a broader strategy to reposition the YPP ahead of the upcoming elections, with national officers, state chairmen, and delegates from across the country in attendance.

In her acceptance speech, Zugwai-Chukwu expressed gratitude to the party leadership for the confidence placed in her, praising their unity and commitment to the party’s growth.

She acknowledged the challenges facing both the nation and the party, noting that Nigerians were demanding more transparent, accountable, and people-focused leadership.

Zugwai-Chukwu pledged to prioritise the party’s ideology and collective goals over personal ambition if elected, stressing that her role would be to uphold the party’s constitution and work closely with key stakeholders.

Earlier, the YPP National Chairman, Bishop Amakiri, introduced a new political direction for the party tagged “Agenda 469,” which he said would guide its preparations for the 2027 elections.

He explained that the initiative was designed to strengthen the party’s influence in the National Assembly and ensure legislative power is used to improve citizens’ welfare.

Amakiri criticised what he called ineffective lawmaking in the country and urged members to focus on policies that enhance security and improve living conditions for Nigerians.

He also called on party members nationwide to intensify mobilisation efforts, insisting that despite challenges facing opposition parties, the YPP remained committed to democratic participation and national development.
