Nigerian music star Davido has criticised the silence of entertainers on pressing national issues, saying public figures have not done enough to address the growing insecurity and injustice affecting the country.
The award-winning Afrobeats singer made the remarks on Saturday through a series of posts on X, where he called on fellow celebrities to use their platforms to speak out.
According to Davido, many entertainers, himself included, have failed to adequately lend their voices to matters affecting ordinary Nigerians.
He wrote that the country was facing overwhelming challenges and stressed the need for influential individuals to stop remaining silent in the face of injustice.
The singer noted that public figures are often criticised regardless of whether they express their opinions or stay quiet, adding that people should be guided by their conscience rather than public reactions.
Davido also expressed sadness over the worsening security situation in the country, saying he was deeply troubled by recent events and extending his sympathies to affected families.
He offered prayers for Nigeria and for victims of recent tragedies, lamenting what he described as the disturbing state of affairs across the nation.
His comments come amid public outrage over the reported abduction of pupils and teachers from a school in Oyo State. The incident reportedly resulted in the deaths of two teachers who were allegedly killed by their captors.
Earlier in the week, Nigerian rapper and activist Falz joined civil society groups in demanding action and calling for protests over the kidnapping of the schoolchildren.
