Doris Ogala Secures AAC Governorship Ticket, Joins Abia 2027 Race

Popular Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has secured the governorship nomination of the African Action Congress (AAC) in Abia State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was made during the party’s governorship primary, where the returning officer officially declared Ogala as the party’s candidate. A video of the declaration surfaced online on Saturday and quickly gained attention.

While accepting the nomination, Ogala outlined her plans for the state, stressing the need to place citizens at the centre of governance. She promised policies aimed at economic growth, job creation, improved education and healthcare services, as well as infrastructure development.

The actress also pledged to run a transparent and accountable administration if elected, assuring residents of good governance and people-oriented leadership.

With her emergence, Ogala joins the race for Abia Government House alongside major contenders, including incumbent governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party, Eric Opah of the APC, and Kelechi Anosike of the PDP.

Ogala’s political ambition comes months after she was involved in a highly publicised dispute with Chris Okafor. The controversy began in late 2025 when she accused the cleric of personal betrayal following reports of his engagement to another woman.

She later claimed they had maintained a relationship since 2017. The dispute escalated into legal proceedings after allegations of cyberstalking and the publication of private photographs surfaced, leading to her arrest and brief detention before the matter moved to court.

Meanwhile, her emergence as the AAC candidate has generated mixed reactions across social media, with many Nigerians expressing surprise at her entry into the governorship race while others welcomed her decision to venture into politics.
