The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed various reports circulating on social media regarding the outcome of its recently concluded nationwide primaries, insisting that such results are unofficial and should be ignored by the public.
The party maintained that only its National Executive Council (NEC) has the authority to announce the authentic outcome of the primaries conducted across the country on May 28 and 29, 2026.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, cautioned against the spread of unverified results, stressing that the official figures remain in the custody of the NEC pending proper ratification.
He noted that the NEC would meet next week to deliberate on the primaries and other related issues arising from the exercise.
According to him, “The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on the 28th and 29th of May, 2026.
“The results of the primaries are with the National Executive Council (NEC) of our great party. They are solely responsible for the announcement of results.”
Director further explained that the NEC meeting was convened following the directive of the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson.
He disclosed that NEC members are expected to arrive in Abuja for a pre-NEC session on Tuesday, June 2, while the main NEC meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
“On the order of the National Leader of our party, His Excellency Senator Seriake Dickson, a NEC meeting has been called. All NEC members are expected in Abuja for the pre-NEC meeting on Tuesday, while the NEC meeting holds on Wednesday,” he added.
The party also assured stakeholders that the official list of candidates emerging from the primaries would be released only after due ratification and forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
It added that the public would be formally informed once the final list of candidates is approved for the party’s participation in the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, the clarification comes amid rising speculation and conflicting claims over the outcome of the primaries held to select candidates for various elective positions nationwide.
The NEC meeting is expected to address emerging disputes and finalize the party’s position before submitting its candidates to INEC.
