The Nasarawa State Police Command has taken into custody two suspects linked to criminal conspiracy, trespass, theft, and unlawful possession of firearms in Keffi Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Lafia on Sunday, describing the operation as a breakthrough in ongoing efforts to curb crime in the state.
According to him, the case began on Saturday at about 10:30 a.m. when a resident of Keffi reported at the divisional headquarters that an unknown individual had broken into his room and stolen his Android phone.
The complainant said the suspect fled immediately after the theft was discovered and an alarm was raised.
Nansel explained that operatives of the division swiftly launched an intelligence-driven investigation, which led to the arrest of the main suspect alongside another man believed to be connected to the incident. Both were traced to the Mayanka area of Keffi.
A subsequent search of the suspects reportedly uncovered several items, including a locally fabricated pistol loaded with a live cartridge, two cutlasses, a knife, two Tecno Android phones, an Itel handset, a bunch of keys, and other suspected incriminating materials.
He added that the suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue to determine their level of involvement in other possible crimes.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, praised the officers involved for their quick response and professionalism.
He also reassured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging the public to continue providing useful information to support crime prevention efforts.
