Two soldiers of the Nigerian Army’s 63 Brigade have lost their lives in a road accident in Delta State, while the driver involved reportedly tested positive for cocaine.
Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, confirmed the incident in a post on his official X handle on Sunday.
He said military sources revealed that the crash occurred on Saturday, May 30, 2026, along 74 Road in Oshimili South Local Government Area of the state, after troops were alerted and rushed to the scene.
Preliminary reports indicated that the deceased soldiers were travelling on a motorcycle when they were hit by a vehicle.
They were evacuated to the 63 Brigade Medical Centre for urgent medical attention but were pronounced dead on arrival by doctors.
Following the crash, the driver of the vehicle was arrested by security operatives at the scene.
According to Makama, the suspect underwent a drug screening and allegedly tested positive for cocaine and cannabis.
He has since been transferred to the 63 Provost Company for further interrogation and investigation.
The bodies of the deceased soldiers have been deposited at the mortuary of the Asaba Specialist Hospital, pending official arrangements.
Authorities have begun a full investigation to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
