Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress, alleging irregularities in the party’s recently concluded presidential primaries.
In a statement issued on Monday, Lawal claimed the exercise was “massively rigged” in favour of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and his allies.
He said the development informed his decision to leave the party, citing a loss of confidence in its internal democratic process following the disputed exercise.
Lawal did not however disclose his next political destination.
Reactions are expected to follow his resignation as tensions continue within the party over the outcome of the primaries.
