Member of the Kano State House of Assembly representing Makoda Constituency, Muhammad Ahmad Tomas, has rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC) after a short stay in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The lawmaker formally announced his return to the ruling party during a visit to the residence of the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, in Abuja on Monday.
Tomas was accompanied by the chairmen of Makoda and Dambatta local government areas, Isa Currency and Jamilu Abubakar Dambatta, during the visit.
Reacting to the development, Senator Barau described the lawmaker’s return as a positive step for the party, noting that it would further strengthen the APC’s political base in Kano State, particularly within Kano North Senatorial District.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Deputy Senate President said the decision reflected the legislator’s confidence in the APC and its governance agenda.
Barau praised Tomas for what he called a strategic political realignment, expressing optimism that the move would contribute to the party’s growth and electoral prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He also assured the returning lawmaker of equal treatment and opportunities within the party, urging APC members to remain united as preparations for future elections gather momentum.
According to Barau, collective commitment and cooperation among party members will be essential in advancing the interests of the APC, Kano State and the country at large.
The latest defection adds to the series of political realignments taking shape in Kano as parties position themselves for the 2027 polls.
