The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Benue State University (BSU) branch, Makurdi, has declared an indefinite, total and comprehensive industrial action over unresolved welfare-related concerns affecting its members.
The decision was contained in a formal notice addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, and signed by the union leadership following a congress meeting held on June 1, 2026.
According to the union, the resolution to embark on the strike action was reached after extensive deliberations and with the approval of the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU.
The lecturers stated that the action became necessary due to the failure of the university authorities and relevant stakeholders to satisfactorily address longstanding welfare issues despite repeated negotiations, representations, and assurances.
ASUU-BSU expressed concern that the unresolved matters had continued to affect the welfare, morale, and productivity of academic staff in the institution.
Consequently, the union directed all its members to withdraw their services with immediate effect, stating that the strike would remain in force until substantial progress is made in resolving the outstanding issues.
The union emphasised that the action is both total and comprehensive, affecting all academic activities within the university.
Signed by the branch leadership, the notice reaffirmed ASUU-BSU’s commitment to defending the welfare of its members while urging swift intervention to prevent further disruption of academic activities.
