The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has called on the Federal Government to issue a 90-day ultimatum to Nigeria’s security chiefs to eliminate terrorism or step down from their positions.
Adeboye made the recommendation in a video reposted on his X account on Tuesday, expressing concern over the persistent insecurity across the country and the continued threat posed by terrorist groups.
According to the cleric, the fight against terrorism requires stronger accountability, insisting that security leaders should be evaluated based on measurable outcomes.
He said the government should act swiftly by directing security chiefs to decisively tackle terrorist activities within three months or relinquish their offices if they fail to deliver results.
Adeboye also urged authorities to go beyond targeting terrorists alone by identifying and prosecuting those financing and supporting their operations, regardless of their social or political influence.
Recalling a past administration, the RCCG leader said a former president had once given a similar directive to military commanders to end insurgency within a specified period. While the order initially prompted increased security operations, he noted that it was not fully enforced after the deadline elapsed.
The cleric explained that his experience and observations from that period informed his current position on how the government should address the security challenge.
The video, originally recorded during the church’s Holy Ghost Service in November 2025, resurfaced amid recent allegations linking Adeboye to political endorsements and claims that he opposed planned protests against insecurity.
Reacting to the controversy, the Redeemed Christian Church of God defended its leader, dismissing reports that he had campaigned for any political party or government.
In a statement released through its official public relations platform, the church accused some commentators and media outlets of repeatedly misrepresenting Adeboye’s views on national matters.
RCCG maintained that its General Overseer has consistently encouraged civic responsibility without endorsing political candidates, adding that his interventions on governance issues are typically framed through moral counsel, prayer and advocacy for righteous leadership.
The church further stressed that Adeboye has repeatedly spoken on issues such as insecurity, corruption, elections, governance and economic hardship, contrary to claims that he has remained silent on national concerns.
