Armed men have kidnapped the sister of former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, alongside her twin sons in Ibadan, the state capital.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday morning at the Challenge axis of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.
A witness told journalists that the victims were taken around 7:30 a.m. while the woman was on her way to drop her children at school.
In a statement confirming the development, Adelabu’s media aide, Femi Awogboro, said the abducted victims include Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, 43, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul.
According to the statement, Mrs. John-Paul, the youngest of five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Adegoke Adelabu, was intercepted by armed men during her morning routine with her children.
She was said to have worked previously with the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before retiring last year and relocating to Ibadan, where she was preparing to join her husband in the United States.
The statement added that security agencies have been alerted and have commenced investigations aimed at rescuing the victims and apprehending those behind the abduction.
It also noted that Adelabu and his family are distressed by the incident but remain hopeful of a safe return, urging security operatives to act swiftly.
The family appealed for calm, warning against speculation and the spread of unverified information that could disrupt ongoing security efforts.
They further called on members of the public with useful information to assist security agencies in the investigation.
