Almakura’s 1975 Throwback: Every Leader Was Once A Young Dreamer At Possibility’s Threshold

By Gabriel Atumeyi

Former Governor of Nassarawa state, Tanko Almakura earlier today took to his social media page to share strong nuggets on leadership and political ideology. In a post on Facebook the politician who was the Governor of Nassarawa between 2011 and 2019 and has remained a key player in the state, and was influential in the emergence of the current governor, Abdullahi Sule, reflected on his journey and principles he has stood for along the way, although ambition over who should succeed to power is driving them apart, with the former throwing his support behind Ex – IGP Mohammed Adamu and the latter behind the Senator Representing Nassarawa West, Aliyu Wadada, who recently crossed over to the APC from the SDP.
The primary election was contentious and the results did not seat well with the Adamu camp.

Adamu has since left the ruling party to the SDP to contest the general election, causing a wave of defection within the APC in Nassarawa state. The post by the former Governor may indicate the prelude to a major decision.

It reads, “This photograph was taken in 1975 during my undergraduate years at Ahmadu Bello University, with Akenzua Hall, Samaru, serving as the backdrop.

As I reflect on this moment, I am reminded that leadership is not an event but a gradual process of growth, preparation, and self-discovery. Long before positions, titles, and public recognition, there are years of learning, discipline, resilience, and character formation that quietly shape future leaders.

For aspiring leaders, never disregard the significance of your present circumstances. The experiences you accumulate today, the values you embrace, and the sacrifices you make will ultimately determine the quality of leadership you offer tomorrow. One lesson I have learned over the years is that for you to be loyal to others, you must first be loyal to yourself, your principles, your values, and your convictions.

This photograph is a timeless reminder that every accomplished leader was once a young dreamer standing at the threshold of possibility. The future belongs to those who prepare for it with purpose, vision, unwavering commitment, and fidelity to their ideals.
