A well-known akara and bread seller operating along Ani Street, off Obudu Road in Ikom, Cross River State, was reportedly confronted by customers on Saturday over allegations that she mixed human excreta with beans used in preparing akara for sale.
According to eyewitness accounts, some regular customers became suspicious of the ingredients being used and requested to inspect the container. It was alleged that the vendor declined the request, prompting those present to force it open, where they claimed to have discovered the suspected contamination.
Witnesses further alleged that when questioned, the woman attributed the act to “the work of the devil” and claimed she had practiced it for a long time because she believed it helped attract more customers.
The incident reportedly drew a large crowd of residents, who gathered at the scene in the early hours of Saturday, expressing shock and anger over the allegations.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from security agencies or environmental health authorities, and it remains unclear whether the woman has been taken into custody or whether an investigation has been launched.
