NAF Deploys Surveillance Aircraft to Aid Rescue of Abducted Oyo Teachers, Pupils

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed a surveillance aircraft to support ongoing efforts to rescue teachers and pupils abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinle communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The development was disclosed by Governor Seyi Makinde during a courtesy visit by the representative of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, and the Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh.

According to the governor, the Air Force responded immediately after receiving reports of the abduction by deploying an aerial surveillance platform to provide intelligence support for security agencies involved in the rescue operation.

Governor Makinde noted that intelligence gathered through the surveillance missions has played a vital role in monitoring the situation and coordinating efforts aimed at securing the safe release of the victims.

He appealed to residents of the affected communities and the general public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, assuring them that all necessary measures are being taken to resolve the situation.

The governor also lauded the Nigerian Air Force for its prompt intervention, explaining that the surveillance aircraft was made available while the state’s newly acquired aerial security assets are still being assembled at the NAF Base in Lagos.

Makinde stated that the acquisition of the aircraft followed consultations with the Air Force to ensure access to technical support, maintenance services and pilot training. He expressed confidence that the platforms would significantly strengthen security operations across Oyo State and neighbouring states once they become operational.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Suleh reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian Air Force to supporting efforts aimed at rescuing the abducted teachers and pupils.

The Air Staff assured the Oyo State Government and residents of the Air Force’s continued collaboration with other security agencies to tackle security challenges and ensure the safe return of the victims.

Suleh also praised the state government for its support towards Nigerian Air Force projects and infrastructure development within Oyo State.

The Air Force reiterated its commitment to working closely with relevant stakeholders to enhance security and protect lives and property across the country.

It will be recalled that gunmen attacked three schools in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, 2026, abducting 39 pupils and seven teachers, bringing the total number of victims to 46.
