Abuja – The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has appointed Abbas Jimoh as its new spokesperson, the apex Islamic body announced on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has appointed Abbas Jimoh as its new spokesperson,” Daily Trust reported. Jimoh was an assistant editor at Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust newspapers and owners of Trust TV and Trust Radio.
Jimoh spent 20 years at the company covering major beats including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), and several political parties. He also reported international events across Africa, Europe and Asia.
His work earned him a fellowship with the Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa, Bloomberg Institute, United States, in partnership with Lagos Business School. He is also a fellow of the MTN-Nigeria Media Innovation Programme second cohort, run with Pan Atlantic University and LBS.
Speaking on his appointment, Jimoh described it as “an opportunity to serve Nigeria and the Muslim community.” He said, “This is a huge responsibility and I am not taking it for granted. The NSCIA has been an organisation I have reported and this appointment serves as a way to gain more insight into how it advocates in strengthening Islam and cohesion among Muslims in the country, all in the collective quest for national development,” Jimoh said.
The NSCIA is the apex Islamic authority in Nigeria. Established in 1973, it was set up to “cater for, preserve, protect, promote and advance the interest of Islam and Muslims throughout the country.” The council has been responsible for the unity of Nigerian Muslims as the official body recognised by federal and state governments to coordinate Islamic affairs in Nigeria.
The appointment takes effect immediately.
