Edo State Government has announced that schools temporarily closed over security concerns will reopen on Monday, June 15, 2026, following an improvement in the security situation.
The directive was conveyed in a circular signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Enodolomwanyi Otamere. The decision came after the government, alongside security agencies and other stakeholders, conducted a comprehensive assessment of the situation.
Governor Monday Okpebholo had earlier ordered the temporary closure of Ososo Grammar School, Ososo Comprehensive High School, and Makeke Secondary School in Akoko Edo Local Government Area after intelligence from the Department of State Services indicated a possible bandit attack on schools in the area.
According to the latest directive, additional security measures and safety mechanisms have since been deployed in the affected communities and schools to protect students, teachers, and other staff members.
The government stated that both public and private schools affected by the closure should resume normal academic and administrative activities on June 15. School administrators and proprietors were also instructed to prepare for the safe return of students while maintaining close collaboration with security agencies, community leaders, and government officials.
Parents and guardians were reassured that adequate security arrangements are in place and were encouraged to ensure their children return to school promptly to continue their education.
