Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the appointment of Yerima Ibn Mahmud as the new Emir of Ngazargamu, following the passing of the former monarch, Alhaji Tijjani Ibn Saleh Geidam.
The announcement was made on Friday in a statement issued by the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Mohammed Goje.
The late Emir died in Egypt after a prolonged illness and was laid to rest in Damaturu on Friday.
Before ascending the throne, Ibn Mahmud held the title of Turakin Ngazargamu, a position he occupied for 16 years. He also had an extensive record in public service, having served as a member of the Yobe State House of Assembly and later as Commissioner for Livestock Development in the state.
Governor Buni congratulated the new Emir and the people of the Ngazargamu Emirate, expressing confidence in the monarch’s ability to provide leadership and foster development.
He urged the traditional ruler to draw on his experience to strengthen unity among the people, promote peaceful coexistence, and support economic progress within the emirate and beyond.
The governor also appealed to residents of the emirate to cooperate fully with the new Emir, stressing that their support would enable him to carry out his responsibilities effectively and contribute to the continued peace, stability, and prosperity of the kingdom.
