The Anambra State Government has confirmed that the 10-year-old boy allegedly subjected to severe abuse by his guardians in Awada, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, is receiving medical attention under the state’s care.

‎The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Esther Onyekesi, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Awka on Monday. She expressed appreciation to residents who alerted the authorities to the incident and assured that the child is being properly attended to.

‎According to her, officials from the ministry, alongside the women leader of the Obosi community, have visited the boy during his treatment.

‎Onyekesi condemned the alleged abuse, describing it as a barbaric act, and insisted that those responsible must be prosecuted in accordance with the law. She also urged members of the public to continue reporting cases of abuse and violence, stressing the importance of speaking up whenever wrongdoing is observed.

‎The incident gained widespread attention after a video circulated on social media showing the young boy with extensive injuries and burn marks across his body, allegedly inflicted by his female guardian and her husband.
‎
‎Although the motive behind the alleged abuse has not been disclosed, another video shared online showed angry residents of Awada, Obosi confronting the suspects at their residence and accusing them of subjecting the child to prolonged torture.
