Police Arrest Pregnant Woman for Supplying Logistics to Kidnappers in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Monday paraded a suspected kidnappers’ informant as well as two other suspects in Paze-Byazhin, Bwari Area Council of the Territory.

FCT police commissioner, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, disclosed this during a press briefing at the command.

He said the arrest followed anti-kidnapping and rescue operation he led on the 9th of June, 2026 in Paze – Byazhin area of Bwari Area Council of the FCT.

He explained that a follow-up operation was conducted on the 11th of June 2026
where the operatives stormed a suspected banditry and kidnapping hideout within the same area and arrested a drug supplier to kidnappers and an informant, as well as two other suspects.

He identified the suspects as Yahaya Abdullahi, Muhammed Yunusa, Hauwa Shafiu and Shamsudeen Mustapha.

He said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were part of a criminal network involved in kidnapping and banditry activities within and around the FCT.

According to him, further investigations revealed that the group had infiltrated and integrated into the local community, enabling them to gather intelligence and coordinate repeated attacks on targeted persons and locations.

“One of the suspects, a female, Hauwa Shafiu, who operates as a logistics supplier and cook for the criminal gang and their hostages, was heavily pregnant at the time of her arrest. She subsequently delivered a healthy baby while in police custody,” the CP said.

He added that adequate medical attention had been provided to both the mother and the child.

The police recovered exhibits, including four motorcycles, 31 pieces of 500mg tablets of Tramadol, 10 pieces of 50mg tables of tramadol, N320, 000 cash, 5 phones, POS machine and cooking utensils.

CP Sanusi said the suspects will be charge to court upon conclusion of investigation.
