RMFAC Begins Nationwide Data Verification for Revenue Sharing Formula Review

The Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC) has launched a nationwide data verification exercise aimed at updating and validating key information that guides the sharing of federally generated revenue among states and local government councils.

The initiative was disclosed by the RMFAC Team Leader, Mohammed Kabir Usman, during a courtesy visit to Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, at the Government House in Asaba. The visit formed part of ongoing nationwide consultations ahead of the review of Nigeria’s revenue allocation formula.

Usman, who led the delegation alongside the Federal Commissioner representing Delta State, Aruviere Martins Egharhevwa, explained that the exercise is part of the commission’s constitutional mandate to periodically review and refine the revenue sharing framework in response to changing economic and demographic realities.

According to him, the review process is already at an advanced stage, making it necessary to verify the accuracy and reliability of existing data that will determine future allocations across the federation.

He noted that factors such as population changes, infrastructural development, and emerging socio-economic challenges across states and local governments have made periodic data validation essential for fairness and accuracy in revenue distribution.

Usman disclosed that the commission had earlier trained relevant state and local government officials on improved data collection and management techniques, while also digitising its data systems to enhance transparency and efficiency.

He added that the verification team will work closely with ministries, departments, agencies, and local government authorities to ensure that the data gathered reflects current realities on the ground.

The RMFAC official further stressed that the outcome of the exercise could significantly influence future revenue allocations, underscoring the importance of credible and comprehensive data.

He assured stakeholders that the process would be conducted transparently and in line with both national standards and international best practices.

In his response, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accountability, prudent resource management, and transparency in governance.

He highlighted ongoing investments by the state in key sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure, noting that these efforts have improved development indicators across Delta State.

The governor also assured the commission of full cooperation throughout the exercise, stating that all ministries, departments, agencies, and local government councils in the state had been directed to support the verification team and provide necessary information.
