Idah, Kogi State – Rekiya, popularly known as “Egbila” and one of the surviving wives of legendary Igala _Agale_ singer Paul Odi, is dead. Almost at the age of 90, Rekiya died in Anyigba and was taken to Aloko for burial in accordance to Islamic rite.
Family sources confirmed that Mama Rekiya died peacefully, surrounded by relatives. Her death marks the end of an era for the Odi family and for lovers of Igala traditional music, as she was one of the last living links to the late music icon.
“In retrospect, Rekiya met Paul Odi at the house of Abimaje Adejoh in Oganenigu, where her elder sister married,” a family member recounted. That meeting at Abimaje Adejoh’s home in Oganenigu led to her marriage to the _Agale_ legend, and she remained a pillar of support to him throughout his life.
Beyond her role as a wife and mother, Rekiya was remembered for her quiet influence and care for the next generation. “Through her influence, Solomon Adejoh of JAMB, Jos, grew up and attended St Peters Idah,” the source added, highlighting her role in mentoring and guiding younger members of the extended family.
Rekiya ‘Egbila’ was known in Idah and Oganenigu for her humility, wisdom, and devotion to family and tradition. As one of the surviving wives of Paul Odi, whose _Agale_ music preserved Igala folklore for decades, she helped keep his memory and legacy alive among the people.
She is survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
May her gentle soul rest in peace.
Condolences are pouring in from Idah, Oganenigu, and across Igala land as family, friends, and admirers mourn the passing of Mama Rekiya.
