The Commander of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, has called for heightened professionalism and unity among officers and soldiers to strengthen operational effectiveness in Taraba State.

‎He made the call while receiving the new Commanding Officer of the 20 Model Battalion, Serti, Lieutenant Colonel Sabiu Mohammed, who officially assumed duty on 16 June 2026 following the death of the former commander, Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Gabriel Okoye, who died on 13 June after a brief illness.

‎Brigadier General Akaliro charged the new battalion commander to sustain the unit’s operational momentum and build on the achievements of his predecessor, while ensuring discipline and cohesion within the ranks.
‎
‎He also urged personnel of the battalion to honour the late commander by remaining committed, disciplined, and focused in carrying out their responsibilities. A minute of silence was observed in his honour, followed by prayers for the repose of his soul and comfort for his family.

‎The brigade commander expressed confidence in Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed’s leadership capacity, noting that his appointment came at a critical time requiring continuity and stability in operations.
‎
‎He further encouraged him to uphold the standards of professionalism, promote unity among troops, and maintain high operational readiness in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy.

‎Akaliro assured the new commander of full support from the Brigade Headquarters and urged personnel of the 20 Model Battalion to extend maximum cooperation to ensure continued operational success.

‎In his response, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed appreciated the confidence reposed in him by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and pledged to build on existing gains while enhancing the battalion’s effectiveness and mission performance.wqr
