Customs Reinforces Tax Compliance with Training on New Fiscal Reforms

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), in collaboration with the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), commenced a two-day training programme for officers and men of NCS on the Federal Government’s new tax policies, as part of efforts to ensure that personnel fully understand their obligations under the country’s evolving tax system.

The training, which began on Wednesday, 17, and ended on Thursday, 18 June 2026, at the Service Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, attracted members of the Management Team, Comptrollers, Superintendents and other junior cadres.

Declaring the training open on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Finance, Administration and Technical Services, DCG Kikelomo Adeola, said the programme became necessary in view of recent changes introduced into the nation’s tax administration process.

According to her, “As a Service entrusted with a critical role in national revenue generation, we must remain abreast of evolving tax policies and ensure strict compliance with our statutory obligations. This training is designed to equip our officers with the requisite knowledge to navigate the new tax regime effectively and uphold the highest standards of professionalism and accountability.”

DCG Adeola reiterated the Service’s commitment to tax compliance, stressing that officers must remain well-informed on tax matters, particularly as the Service continues to play a pivotal role in government revenue collection.

She further noted that “Tax compliance is not merely a statutory requirement; it is a reflection of our commitment to transparency, accountability, and national development. By investing in the capacity of our personnel, we are positioning the Service to adapt seamlessly to emerging fiscal reforms while sustaining public confidence in our operations.”

In her remarks, Assistant Director of Tax at the Nigeria Revenue Service, Victoria Udo, said Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) remains one of the most reliable mechanisms for collecting personal income tax, noting that compliance extends beyond legal obligations to include access to tax clearance certificates and other financial opportunities.

She urged participants to take advantage of the training by asking questions and sharing experiences, adding that a better understanding of the new tax laws would enhance the efficiency with which they discharge their responsibilities.
