APC’s Faduyile Wins Ondo South Senate By-Election

Professor Dayo Faduyile of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the Ondo South Senatorial District by-election conducted on Saturday.

‎

‎The result was announced on Sunday by the Returning Officer, Professor Gbenga Solomon-Ibileye, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, at the collation centre in Okitipupa, Ondo State.

‎According to the official results, Faduyile secured 68,474 votes to defeat his opponents. Adeolu Akinwunmi of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) came a distant second with 1,411 votes, while Adesanya Olaoluwa of the Action Peoples Party (APP) and Clement Funso-Nejo of the Boot Party garnered 213 and 70 votes respectively.

‎

‎Solomon-Ibileye disclosed that 70,770 votes were cast during the election, with 602 ballots declared invalid.

‎

‎Speaking after the announcement, Ondo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mutiu Agboke, described the by-election as a valuable exercise for the commission ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎

‎He noted that the few challenges encountered would provide lessons for improving future electoral processes.

‎

‎Agboke added that the outcome reflected the will of the electorate and expressed satisfaction that electoral officials deployed to difficult riverine areas returned safely without any major incidents.

‎

‎The poll was conducted across six local government areas—Okitipupa, Ilaje, Ese-Odo, Irele, Odigbo and Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo.

‎

‎The by-election became necessary following the appointment of former senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
