Take-It-Back Movement Holds Protest over Abducted Oyo Pupils, Teachers Monday

The Take It Back Movement has announced plans to stage another protest on Monday, June 22, over rising insecurity and the continued abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.

The group’s Oyo State Coordinator, Dimeji Salako, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, saying the protest would take place at Iwo Road in Ibadan.

According to Salako, the protest forms part of a series of actions aimed at demanding the release of abducted victims and drawing attention to worsening insecurity across the country.

He lamented that more than a month after the abduction of 40 schoolchildren and seven teachers in Ogbomoso, the victims had yet to regain their freedom.

“It is over one month now since the abduction of 40 schoolchildren and seven teachers in Oyo State and nothing is being done by the government to ensure their release,” he said.

Salako alleged that insecurity had continued to deteriorate, with more attacks by bandits recorded across the country.

“Rather than for the situation to get better, insecurity has only worsened as Nigeria has recorded even more attacks by bandits since then. The vulnerable masses are the ones bearing the brunt mostly. They are the ones being brutally murdered and held captive in dangerous forests with their fate unknown,” he added.

The coordinator called on Nigerians to join the protest and demand the release of all kidnapped victims as well as an end to banditry and other forms of insecurity.

“As a movement, we call on Nigerians to join the action to demand the release of all kidnap victims and a total end to banditry and all forms of insecurity in Nigeria.

“It is to this end that we will be rallying Nigerians to march again until freedom is guaranteed,” he said.

The movement noted that it had participated in several demonstrations across Abuja, Lagos, Ibadan and Osun, including protests held on June 12 to demand improved security and better welfare for Nigerians.
