The Kaduna State Police Command has brought 17 additional suspects before the court over the mob killing of a woman in Maraban Jos, saying investigations into the incident are still in progress.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the command said the suspects were arraigned on June 25, 2026.
The police also revealed that 33 other individuals have been charged with criminal conspiracy and unlawful assembly after preliminary investigations linked them to the incident.
Meanwhile, 30 people who had earlier been arrested in connection with the case have been released without conditions after investigators established that they were not involved in the killing.
According to the command, efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest everyone who participated in or facilitated the crime, stressing that no culprit will escape justice.
”The Command reiterates that investigations remain ongoing. We are intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend all individuals who participated in, or aided, the commission of this heinous crime. Every person found culpable will be brought to justice,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, reaffirmed the command’s resolve to ensure justice for the victim while maintaining peace and security across Kaduna State.
He also appealed to residents to remain calm, obey the law, and support the investigation by providing credible information that could assist security operatives.
The victim, Malama Ummulkhairi, an Islamic teacher, was allegedly lynched by a mob in Maraban Jos after being accused of stealing children. The incident attracted widespread condemnation from security agencies, civil society organisations, and community leaders, who described the killing as a disturbing act of mob justice.
