At least eight people have lost their lives, while 17 others were injured following a tragic road accident along the Funtua–Katsina Highway in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.

‎The incident occurred around 1:32 p.m. on Sunday at Layin Kukah, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Katsina Sector Command.

‎In a statement issued by the command’s Public Education Officer, DRC Shamsudeen Babajo, the crash involved a Toyota Hiace commercial bus bearing registration number 14B 92 TR and an unregistered Bajaj tricycle.
‎
‎The FRSC disclosed that a total of 25 people were involved in the accident. Eight victims were confirmed dead at the scene, while the remaining 17 sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment.

‎Initial findings by the corps indicated that dangerous overtaking was responsible for the collision.
‎
‎The command explained that it received notification of the crash at about 1:34 p.m., and its rescue team arrived at the location approximately 30 minutes later, at 2:04 p.m.

‎Babajo noted that the rescue operation was carried out jointly with members of the Community Watch Corps (C-Watch). Injured victims were taken to Bakori Comprehensive Hospital for emergency medical care, while the bodies of those who died were first deposited at the same hospital before being transferred to the General Hospital in Funtua.

‎The FRSC urged motorists to exercise caution on the highways, avoid risky overtaking, and comply with traffic regulations to reduce the growing number of preventable road accidents.
