The Nasarawa State Police Command has detained a 30-year-old man, Musbawu Amodu, for allegedly beating his 20-year-old wife to death during a domestic disagreement in Angwan Yahaya, Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of the state.
‎
‎According to the police, the incident happened on Sunday after a report was received at the Agyaragu Police Division around 12:30 p.m. that the suspect had attacked his wife, resulting in her death.
‎
‎The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ramhan Nansel, said officers were dispatched to the scene immediately, while the deceased was taken to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, for medical examination and preservation.
‎
‎Nansel stated that the suspect was arrested and allegedly admitted to assaulting his wife during questioning. He reportedly told investigators that he acted out of anger after his wife declined to prepare food, adding that the argument later turned violent and led to her death.
‎
‎The suspect was said to have shown regret over the incident.
‎
‎The deceased, who was married to Amodu for six years, reportedly left behind two children — a boy and a girl.
‎
‎The state Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for a detailed investigation.
‎
‎Mohammed assured that the suspect would face prosecution after the investigation is concluded, stressing that justice would be pursued.
‎
‎He condemned domestic violence in all forms, describing the incident as unfortunate and preventable. The commissioner urged couples to settle disagreements through communication and lawful channels rather than resorting to violence.
‎
‎The police also assured residents that calm had returned to Agyaragu and neighbouring communities, with security operatives monitoring the situation.
