A 60-year-old headmaster, Matthew Owoade, has been abducted by suspected gunmen in Igbojaye, Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Owoade, who heads the Nomadic Basic School in Ogodu, was reportedly kidnapped around 6 p.m. on Saturday while returning from his farm at Budo Aare.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the Oyo State Police Command, through its spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said security operatives had launched efforts to rescue the victim and apprehend those behind the abduction.
According to the police, the victim’s son, Abiola Owoade, said the armed men intercepted his father and took him to an unknown location.
Ayanlade added that the kidnappers later contacted the family and demanded a ransom of N30 million for the headmaster’s release. Investigation and rescue efforts are ongoing.
