NIEEE Chairman Pledges to Drive Nigeria’s Tech Growth Through Engineering Innovation ‎

The newly elected National Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (NIEEE), Alkali Tijjani, has pledged to position engineers at the forefront of Nigeria’s technological advancement in response to emerging global innovations.

‎

‎Mr Tijjani stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Maiduguri shortly after his election as the leader of the professional body.

‎He noted that the engineering sector was undergoing major transformations due to developments in digital technology, renewable energy, automation and artificial intelligence, stressing that Nigerian engineers must take a proactive role in developing solutions to the nation’s technological and infrastructure challenges.

‎

‎The NIEEE chairman said the institution’s responsibilities go beyond safeguarding members’ interests, adding that it is also committed to advancing research, encouraging innovation and ensuring adherence to professional ethics.

‎

‎“Our responsibility extends beyond advancing the interests of our members. We must continue to uphold the highest standards of professional ethics, encourage continuous learning, promote research and innovation, and provide practical solutions to the technological and infrastructural challenges confronting our nation,” he said.

‎

‎He called for stronger partnerships between the institution and government agencies, academic institutions, private sector organisations, regulatory bodies and international engineering associations to enhance its impact on national development.

‎

‎Tijjani also promised to lead an administration built on inclusiveness, transparency and accountability, ensuring that members and chapters across the country have a voice in the affairs of the institution.

‎

‎He listed strengthening the institution, expanding membership, promoting digital transformation, improving professional development, building strategic partnerships, engaging young engineers and increasing NIEEE’s visibility as key areas his administration would focus on.

‎

‎The chairman urged chapter leaders nationwide to promote excellence and unity through activities such as technical workshops, public lectures, industrial tours, mentorship programmes and community-based initiatives.

‎

‎He further encouraged young engineers and students to embrace creativity, continuous learning and professional growth, assuring them of increased opportunities for leadership and career development.

‎

‎Tijjani expressed optimism that through collaboration, professionalism and commitment to service, NIEEE would continue to play a significant role in advancing technology and supporting Nigeria’s development.
