Tinubu Reappoints Olanrewaju-Smart as House of Reps Adviser

President Bola Tinubu has reappointed Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart as Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives), with the appointment taking immediate effect.

‎

‎The announcement was made on Sunday in Abuja by the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga. Olanrewaju-Smart replaces Ibrahim Olanrewaju, having previously stepped down from the position to contest an elective office in his home state.

‎According to the presidency, Olanrewaju-Smart is an academic and public policy specialist with a PhD in Educational Management from Lead City University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University.

‎

‎He is also an Edward Mason Fellow in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School, a LEAPS Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and holds a Professional Diploma in Public Relations from the London School of Public Relations. In addition, he served as a Policy Fellow at Quantum Alliance AI in the United States.

‎

‎His experience in the legislature includes serving as Research and Media Assistant to both the Minority and Majority Leaders of the House of Representatives during the 7th and 8th National Assemblies. He later worked as Special Adviser, Deputy Chief of Staff, and Chief of Staff to the Speaker in the 9th and 10th Assemblies.

‎

‎Onanuga noted that Olanrewaju-Smart joined the Presidency in October 2023 as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Inter-Governmental Affairs. He added that the appointee played a role in shaping major public policy initiatives, including the Interest-Free Student Loan Act.

‎

‎President Tinubu expressed confidence that Olanrewaju-Smart would further strengthen collaboration between the Presidency, ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), and the House of Representatives, while enhancing legislative coordination.

‎

‎The presidency said the reappointment takes effect immediately.
