President Bola Tinubu has expressed confidence that Nigeria’s economy is recovering while security operations across the country are recording improved outcomes through stronger collaboration among security and intelligence agencies.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this on Tuesday after leading members of the National Communications Team to a meeting with the president at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The delegation comprised members of the Presidential Media Team and chief executives of government information agencies, including the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Voice of Nigeria (VON) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA).
According to Idris, the meeting focused on assessing public perception of government policies and reviewing the administration’s communication strategy. He said it also provided an opportunity for the communications team to brief the president on public reactions to ongoing reforms while receiving guidance on engaging Nigerians more effectively.
He explained that the discussions reinforced the importance of maintaining regular consultations with the president to ensure government messaging remains clear and responsive to citizens’ concerns.
Idris said President Tinubu maintained that the administration’s economic reforms were beginning to deliver measurable benefits, adding that the country had moved beyond the most difficult phase of the economic transition.
“The president has consistently said the economy is turning the corner, and now we believe it has indeed turned the corner,” the minister said.
On security, Idris said the president acknowledged that challenges remained in some parts of the country but noted that ongoing operations were producing better results due to improved coordination among the armed forces and intelligence agencies.
He attributed the enhanced cooperation within the security architecture to President Tinubu’s leadership and commitment to restoring peace and stability nationwide.
The minister added that the president emphasised the need for continuous dialogue with Nigerians so that government policies are properly understood and citizens’ feedback can shape decision-making.
Speaking on media relations, Idris said Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s support for press freedom, while reminding journalists of the responsibility that comes with that freedom.
He also revealed that the president called for closer collaboration between government and the media in tackling fake news, misinformation and disinformation, particularly as artificial intelligence continues to influence information dissemination.
