AIG Jimoh Emerges West, Central Africa’s Outstanding Anti-Crime Police Chief for 2025

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Olohundare Jimoh, who heads Zone 2 of the Nigeria Police Force, has been recognised as the Outstanding Anti-Crime Police Chief in West and Central Africa for 2025.

‎

‎The honour was conferred by the Security Watch Africa Initiative Network during the 19th African Security Watch Awards held in Banjul, The Gambia.

‎

‎The organisation said the award acknowledged the innovative crime-fighting measures and policing reforms introduced by Jimoh while he served as the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.

‎

‎Although the senior police officer was unable to attend the ceremony because of official commitments, representatives of the organisation later visited Lagos to present the award to him.

‎

‎The delegation was led by the group’s International Coordinator, Patrick Agbambu, and National Coordinator, Elizabeth Ndanku.

‎

‎Agbambu, in his remarks, described the award recipient as a seasoned and disciplined officer whose career has included key positions such as Force Public Relations Officer and Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Command.

‎

‎According to him, Jimoh’s leadership in Lagos contributed to noticeable improvements in crime control and strengthened trust between the police and members of the public.

‎

‎Speaking after receiving the award, Jimoh dedicated the recognition to the officers and personnel who worked with him during his tenure in Lagos, describing it as the product of teamwork rather than an individual achievement.

‎

‎He highlighted the expansion of the Eko Strike Force from two operational vehicles to more than 18 patrol units, noting that the outfit worked closely with the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) to strengthen rapid intervention and improve public safety across the state.

‎

‎The AIG also commended residents of Lagos for their cooperation with the police, saying community support played a significant role in the command’s crime prevention efforts.

‎

‎Reflecting on his time as Lagos police commissioner, Jimoh recalled that the local government elections conducted across the state’s 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas were peaceful, with no reported cases of ballot box snatching or attacks on voters.

‎

‎Jimoh reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguarding lives and property, pledging to sustain effective crime prevention initiatives in his current capacity as Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2.
