The Nigerian Navy has rescued two 16-year-old boys from drowning after their wooden boat capsized in Egweama Community, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

‎The Director of Naval Information, Commodore Abiodun Folorunsho, disclosed the development on Thursday in Abuja, saying personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) FORMOSO carried out the rescue operation.
‎
‎According to him, the incident happened on Tuesday when the teenagers were returning from a routine journey along the community waterways. Their boat overturned after encountering rough water conditions, leaving them stranded and in danger of drowning.
‎
‎Folorunsho said the naval personnel quickly responded after spotting the distressed teenagers, rescued them from the water and moved them to safety.
‎
‎He added that the victims were given immediate assistance and medical attention to assess their health after the rescue.
‎
‎The naval spokesperson noted that the successful operation demonstrated the professionalism, preparedness and swift response of Nigerian Navy personnel in protecting lives within the country’s maritime environment.
‎
‎He said the rescue also reflected the service’s commitment to ensuring maritime safety, conducting effective search-and-rescue operations and safeguarding residents of coastal and riverine communities.
‎
‎Folorunsho further stated that such interventions strengthen the Navy’s relationship with host communities by promoting people-centred and responsive operations.
‎
‎He reaffirmed the Navy’s resolve to continue protecting legitimate users of Nigeria’s waterways while carrying out its responsibility of securing the nation’s maritime domain.
