Australia has strengthened its position at the top of the 2026 Commonwealth Games medal table, while Nigeria continues to hold the distinction of being Africa’s best-performing country at the tournament.

‎The Glasgow, Scotland-hosted Games entered its ninth day on Friday, with Australia sitting comfortably in first place after recording 55 gold medals, 28 silver medals and 42 bronze medals, bringing its overall tally to 125.

‎The Australians increased their gold medal haul by five on Friday, securing victories in events including the men’s elimination race, men’s 10,000m race walk and men’s 4,000m individual pursuit in track cycling.
‎
‎They also claimed gold in the women’s 10km scratch race and the men’s C1-C3 1,000m time trial.
‎
‎Canada remained in second place behind Australia, with its latest gold medals coming from the men’s -66kg and women’s -52kg judo categories.
‎
‎Nigeria, meanwhile, retained its position as the highest-ranked African nation in the competition. The country has so far won eight gold, five silver and three bronze medals, placing fifth on the overall medal table with 16 medals.
