The Accord party in Osun state has raised alarm over an alleged directive to the Divisional Police Officers to secure accommodation for local electoral officers, calling the development an attempt to write election results outside polling units.
Credible reports indicated that the Osun APC met last night at Osogbo and resolved to direct the Divisional Police Officers through the commissioner of police to secure accommodation for electoral Officers across the local governments.
Sources privy to the meeting said the APC plot in cohort with a section of the state police command is to condone off those booked accommodations as a safe haven to write election results which will then be declared as official results across the councils.
“We view with grave concern this sinister plot and we call on the Independent National Electoral Commission to reject any attempt to rope its officials into garrison accommodation for election rigging. Osun people reject any attempt to write election results from barricaded hotel rooms under police illegal operations.
“We declare unequivocally that the police have no business with accommodation provision for electoral officers. From accompanying APC thugs to hijack motor parks and from leading APC thugs to arrest Accord leaders, the police is graduating to direct interference in the electoral process.
The INEC has its mandate and its operations model. We call on the national and state leadership of INEC to issue a direct circular on this untoward development. The Osun police command is sufficiently discredited by its undisguised partisan conduct.
The police’s barefaced, unholy and unconstitutional partnership with rogue elements within the APC should not be extended to the electoral commission. August 15 is attracting national and international spotlight and scrutiny as a test case for the 2027 general election.
For the sake of democracy protection and promotion, we call on INEC to distance itself from this anti-people plot of the Osun APC. Osun voters must be allowed to decide who governs them through a free and fair electoral process.
