Team Nigeria wrapped up its campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, with an impressive seventh-place finish on the overall medals table, emerging as the only African country to secure a place among the top 10 nations.

‎The Nigerian contingent amassed 24 medals during the Games, held from July 23 to August 2, winning 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals across athletics, para-powerlifting, weightlifting and judo.

‎Among the standout performances, Samuel Ogazi claimed gold in the men’s 400 metres, Ezekiel Nathaniel triumphed in the men’s 400m hurdles, while Chukwuebuka Enekwechi won the men’s shot put title. Goodness Nwanchukwu also retained her Commonwealth crown in the women’s discus throw (F42-44/F61-64 category).

‎Nigeria added three silver medals through Udodi Onwuzurike in the men’s 200m, Ruth Usoro in the women’s long jump and Jessica Oji in the women’s shot put.

‎The bronze medal tally included Ella Onojuvwevwo in the women’s 400m before she teamed up with her colleagues to secure another bronze in the mixed 4x400m relay. Tobi Amusan finished third in the women’s 100m hurdles, Kayinsola Ajayi earned bronze in the men’s 100m, while Temitope Adeshina made history by winning Nigeria’s first Commonwealth Games high jump medal in more than seven decades.

‎Beyond athletics, Team Nigeria also reached the podium in para-powerlifting, weightlifting and judo, contributing to the country’s overall medal haul.

‎Australia finished as the overall champions with 171 medals, including 70 gold, 45 silver and 56 bronze. England followed in second place with 110 medals, while Canada claimed third with 62 medals. India and host nation Scotland completed the top five after each won 39 medals.

‎New Zealand placed sixth ahead of Nigeria, while Jamaica, Wales and Malaysia rounded off the top 10 standings.
‎
‎Other African countries in the top 20 included South Africa in 11th position with 28 medals, Kenya in 13th with 12 medals, Mauritius in 15th with four medals and Cameroon in 16th after collecting five medals.
‎
‎The 2026 Commonwealth Games featured about 3,000 athletes competing for 215 gold medals, a reduction from the 2022 Birmingham Games, where more than 5,000 athletes contested 280 medal events.
