A 27-year-old woman and a five-month-old baby girl have died after a boat capsized off the Statue of Liberty in New York on Saturday.
The victims were identified as Sara Sanchez and Antoella Garcia. They were found in the water and taken to NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn, where they were pronounced dead.
Authorities said 12 individuals on board were rescued from the incident and suffered minor injuries.
The captain of the boat, Manuel Hernandez, has been arrested and charged with 13 counts of reckless endangerment.
The U.S. Coast Guard is also investigating alongside other authorities to determine whether the boat was operating as an unlicensed passenger vessel.
However, no other boats were involved in the incident.
