Thugs Target Chinese Students in Racist Assault Spree in Glasgow

Two racist thugs, Liam Murphy and Bradley Lawrie, have been found guilty of perpetrating targeted attacks on a group of Chinese students and random strangers in Glasgow, Scotland.

The suspects allegedly committed eight assaults over a period of four and a half hours on different strangers in the city centre on September 14, 2025.

News outlet HeraldScotland reported on Monday that Mr Murphy, 19, pleaded guilty to nine aggravated assault charges, while Mr Lawrie, 20, pleaded guilty to seven charges.

Prosecutor Shanti Maguire narrated that the suspects assaulted four students—Yucheng He, Zhibo Lu, Hanqing Li and Rui Sun—at about 8:30 p.m. on the day of the incident.

Mrs Maguire said the suspects shouted vulgar words at the Chinese students and punched and struck one of the students in the mouth.

She said the suspects grabbed glass bottles from a nearby bin and threw them, leading to a cut on Mr He’s head, blurred vision and bruises.

The prosecutor said the attack resulted in a permanent head wound scar for Mr He, lip injuries for Messrs Lu and Li, while Mr Sun suffered a physical injury.

Mrs Maguire stated, “Mr Sun observed Murphy and Lawrie shouting at the group. He could not understand all of what was being said, but could hear they were shouting ‘c****y’ from across the street.

“Murphy and Lawrie then approached the group shouting ‘f***ing c****s’ amongst other aggressive words,” she said.

The prosecutor explained that the assailants also attacked three individuals in separate incidents before assaulting the international students.

Ms Maguire said the suspects punched and kicked a man identified as Jordan Dunsmore outside the Sir Moore pub in Glasgow’s Argyle Street, leaving the victim with wounds to his head.

She said one of the suspects, Mr Murphy, kicked and smashed a beer bottle on another stranger, Damian Mannion, near Buchanan Street.

The same suspect pushed and kicked another stranger, David Silver, in Aberdeen at Glasgow Central Station.

“Murphy and Lawrie then repeatedly kicked and stamped on Mr Silver’s head and body while he lay motionless on the ground. Lawrie walked away. However, Murphy ran back and stamped again on Mr Silver,” the prosecutor said.

She said the victim suffered three broken ribs, fluid around the lungs, a fractured nose and a “golf ball sized” swelling at his right eye.

The prosecutor said the final attack on the fateful day was on a hotel worker, Kian O’Neill, who was pounced upon near the station, after the suspects demanded his phone and cigarettes.

Mr O’Neill was punched and had a glass bottle chucked at him.

The presiding judge at the High Court in Glasgow, Lord Cubie, described the suspects’ misconduct as “disgraceful and savage”.

“You have pled guilty to a series of disgraceful, savage and apparently motiveless assaults randomly targeting strangers in Glasgow city centre over a four and a half hour period,” the judge said.

“The behaviour must have been terrifying for the victims. It is utterly shameful, and it disfigures Glasgow’s reputation,” he added.

The suspects have reportedly been remanded in custody.
