Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has received troops deployed to Omu Aran in Irepodun Local Government Area, expressing appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for strengthening security operations in the state.
The governor welcomed the soldiers on Wednesday at the 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi Barracks, Ilorin, according to a statement by his deputy spokesperson, Mashood Agboola.
AbdulRazaq described the deployment as a significant step towards tackling insecurity, noting that the arrival of the troops showed that the Federal Government was acting promptly on the security situation in Kwara.
He said the deployment followed the earlier announcement by the Chief of Army Staff and expressed satisfaction that the troops had already commenced preparations for their operations.
“We are here to welcome the troops. Our coming here is truly significant because when the Chief of Army Staff announced the deployment of brigades in Kwara, we thought it would take some time,” the governor said.
He added that another military team had visited Pategi to identify a suitable location for the new battalion base in the area.
AbdulRazaq also welcomed the troops heading to Omu Aran and praised the Federal Government for its efforts to improve security across the state.
The governor particularly commended President Tinubu for approving improved salaries and welfare packages for military personnel, saying the measures would help boost the morale and effectiveness of soldiers.
The event was attended by the General Officer Commanding 9 Division of the Nigerian Army and Joint Task Force Operation Savannah Shield, Major General Yakubu Yahaya, as well as the Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi, Ilorin, Brigadier General Nicholas Rume.
The Federal Government had earlier approved the establishment of an army battalion in Kwara as part of efforts to strengthen security and address rising cases of killings in the state.
